Why North Shore students choose KLWM
- An easy, direct drive. Route 114 runs from Salem through Peabody, Danvers and Middleton right into North Andover. For many North Shore towns it's a straight shot with no highway needed.
- A towered airport. KLWM has a control tower, so you'll learn professional radio skills and procedures from your first flight.
- The coast as your classroom. Training flights and cross-countries take you over Plum Island, Crane Beach, Cape Ann and the harbors you know from the ground.

Flying the North Shore coastline
Once you've soloed, coastal flying is one of the best parts of training here. You'll learn to handle sea breezes, marine haze and changing coastal weather. Those skills make you a sharper pilot, and the views make every cross-country worth it. After your private pilot license, Portsmouth, Maine and the islands are an easy trip.
Start with a discovery flight
Not sure yet? Book a discovery flight: about an hour at the airport, with you at the controls. It's also a great gift for the North Shore aviation fan in your life.
