Does it matter that the school is in Massachusetts?
Not at all. Pilot certificates are issued by the FAA, a federal agency, so there's no such thing as a Massachusetts or New Hampshire pilot license. The private pilot certificate you earn at KLWM is valid across the U.S., and you can fly into any New Hampshire airport the day you pass your checkride.
Getting here from Southern NH
- Salem, Windham, Pelham: take I-93 South to I-495 North, or local roads through Methuen. About 15–20 minutes.
- Atkinson, Plaistow, Hampstead: Route 125 South runs down through Haverhill toward North Andover. About 15–25 minutes.
- Derry, Londonderry: I-93 South to I-495 North. About 20–25 minutes.
- Nashua, Hudson: Route 3 South to I-495 North, or cross over to I-93. About 30 minutes.
Flying New Hampshire
Training from KLWM puts New Hampshire's best flying within reach. Cross-country flights head north over the Lakes Region, with Lake Winnipesaukee an easy trip, or east along the Seacoast toward Portsmouth. On a clear day you'll see the White Mountains from the traffic pattern. Mountain flying and fall foliage trips are favorites once you're certificated.
Learning in busy airspace, the right way
Between Manchester, Boston and the many smaller airports in the region, Southern New Hampshire and Northern Massachusetts airspace is busy. Learning at a towered airport means you'll be comfortable on the radio and confident working with air traffic control wherever you fly.
